Will I be able to do it?
I have no experience kayaking and I'm not athletic, but I'm healthy and I like adventure. Is that a problem?
There’s no problem if you don’t have any kayaking experience, but it’s important to be adaptable and aware that it’s a physical activity that requires being healthy and somewhat fit. If you think you can do it, you’ll do it, and we’ll help you. We teach basic sea kayaking skills and we travel with a support boat. The group is also well-suited to everyone. The question is, are you willing to have a good time and adapt to the group? If your answer is yes, then you can kayak around Ibiza without any problem.
What requirements are needed to do the Ibiza Kayak Tour?
- Be prepared to work as a team.
- Be prepared to be immersed in nature for seven days without the usual resources.
- Have the ability to adapt to the different unforeseen events of the natural environment.
- Knowing how to collaborate with a positive and constructive attitude.
If you don’t meet any of these requirements, we suggest you choose another type of trip more suited to your profile, otherwise it won’t be a vacation you’ll enjoy. But if you meet these requirements… you can have the best vacation of your life!
I have quite a bit of experience in kayaking and usually go in closed kayaks, is this the place for me?
Our kayaks are open touring (self-draining) and suitable for adventure. But if you’re looking for something more professional, this might not be the place for you. Also, for group safety, we always carry several double kayaks, and you’ll have to paddle in a double kayak someday. If this isn’t for you, you can explore other options. However, if you still want to come, we’d be happy to share our knowledge with you.
If I don't do any exercise in my normal life, can I kayak around Ibiza?
Yes, you can, but it will require extra effort. If you’re prepared to push yourself and, above all, have a good mental attitude, go for it! If not, we suggest you leave it for when you feel ready.
I tend to get seasick. Can I kayak around Ibiza?
Yes, you can, but bring Biodramina pills for seasickness, preferably with caffeine. If you don’t know whether you get seasick or not, it’s best to bring a box of pills just in case. In case of seasickness, you will be taken on the support boat to the nearest cove, and once there, seasickness will pass in about 15 minutes.
Preparing the trip to Ibiza
Which airline and boat companies fly to Ibiza?
By plane Vueling, Ryanair, Volotea, etc. By boat Balearia and Transmediterránea.
In any case, check for yourself as the offers change constantly. We do not take care of transport to the meeting point.
What is the payment method?
To make your reservation, you’ll need to make a deposit of €100 when confirming your spot. You’ll need to pay the remaining amount one month before the start date of your chosen tour.
The luggage
What do I need to bring for this adventure?
Below is a list of recommended packing for your Kayak Tour of Ibiza:
- Sleeping bag (medium temperature) that doesn’t take up too much space.
- Mat: VIK will provide you with an insulated trekking mat, but if you want to bring your own, you are free to do so.
- DNI, NIE or Passport.
- Social Security or Private Insurance Card.
- Thin towel or sarong (that doesn’t take up too much space).
- 2 swimsuits or bikinis.
- 1 long-sleeved sun-protective shirt (if you have very fair skin, we also recommend tights).
- Two t-shirts and two shorts.
- Change of underwear (for sleeping).
- A long-sleeved T-shirt or a light sweatshirt and long summer pants. (If you’re coming in September, pack a little thicker pants for the evenings.)
- A pair of socks.
- Booties.
- Flip-flops with straps (for dry use). If they’re for trekking, they’re better than flip-flops. Crocs are also a good option.
- Aluminum and/or plastic plate, glass and cutlery.
- Cap or hat.
- Sunglasses with a strap so you don’t lose them at sea.
- One-liter or one-and-a-half-liter canteen (if it is opaque, even better).
- Sun cream.
- Mosquito repellent and/or mosquito net. If you’re particularly prone to mosquito bites, we recommend, in addition to a tropical mosquito repellent, a mosquito net that doesn’t take up much space. Recommendations:
- Goggles and snorkel.
- Flashlight or headlamp.
- Toiletry bag: toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, comb, and wet wipes. If you have long hair, a leave-in detangling spray is often helpful. Under no circumstances will we use soap in the sea.
- Small backpack (about 10 liters) that can get wet (it doesn’t need to be waterproof, a drawstring backpack, like a merchandising backpack, is fine).
- Biodramina tablets with caffeine (for those who get seasick).
- Shoveling gloves, gym type (not necessary, but recommended).
- Pen.
- Portable battery (in case you want to charge your phone, since there won’t be many outlets).
- Waterproof case for mobile phone.
- Food for the first day (although there’s an Eroski supermarket where you can buy food before starting the trek on the first day). We recommend things that don’t require much preparation (canned sardines, cold cuts, bread, nuts, fruit, etc.). Throughout the trek, we’ll stop in areas with supermarkets or grocery stores.
Remember that the water and energy bars for the trip are provided by Vuelta Ibiza Kayak.
* IMPORTANT! Keep in mind that you’ll only have a 15-liter dry bag to carry your gear (apart from the small backpack you’ll need and the waterproof container for your phone, documents, etc.), so we strongly recommend not bringing more than the recommended amount. Part of this experience is enjoying the luxury of not needing a lot of stuff to have a good time.
Any remaining luggage you bring to the island and don’t take with you on the kayak trip will be locked up by Vuelta Ibiza Kayak and returned at the end of the week.
During the return
What about the mat?
We include insulated trekking mats, but if you’d like to bring an inflatable mat or your own, you can certainly do so.
Inflatable mats provide more comfort and usually take up little space. When using the mat, make sure the ground is free of stones or other objects that could puncture it.
Here are links to some sample models:
Where does the luggage I don't take back with me on the kayak trip go?
All the equipment you bring to the island and don’t need for the kayak tour will be locked away and returned to you at the end of the adventure.
How is the material we carry distributed? How many liters do I have to store my clothes?
The material we carry is divided into three parts:
- Waterproof container (2 liters capacity per person): This holds your wallet, cell phone, pen, charger, flashlight, etc. It goes in the kayak.
- Backpack that can get wet (no more than 10 liters is ideal, you have to bring it): Everything that can get wet goes in this: sunscreen, sunglasses, plates and cutlery, snorkeling goggles, etc. It goes in the kayak.
- Dry bag (15 liters capacity per person): This holds the rest of our luggage that can’t get wet (usually clothes). It goes in the support boat. In the “What Should I Bring?” section of the website, you’ll find a detailed list of the necessary gear for the return trip.
Where do people go to the bathroom?
If we’re in a cove with a beach bar nearby, we’re lucky. If not, they’re made in nature. We always wipe ourselves with paper, save it (in another paper) and throw it in the nearest trash can to avoid leaving any traces on nature. We’ll bury the “trophy” itself and disguise it with a natural look as best as possible, out of respect for the other people who pass by those places.
What food is recommended and will I be able to buy it during the adventure?
It’s recommended to bring fruit, bread, canned goods, or nuts. Something you can eat without any prior preparation. All water is included, as well as energy bars along the way. During the week, we’ll stop a couple of times at coastal supermarkets to refuel for lunch, so there’s no need to come loaded with food for the whole week. Remember that breakfast and four dinners are included. One dinner will be at a local restaurant (not included), and another will be shared with everyone.
Are there showers along the way?
Due to the water emergency, many showers have been removed from Ibiza’s beaches, and now there are almost none, so it’s best to accept the fact that we’ll be without showers for a week. We will have access to a shower on the last day.
Are there mosquitoes?
If the weather is bad, what do we do?
If the weather is bad, you can’t go paddling, and generally, when the sea is rough, it’s around the entire island. We usually trek around the area where we stayed (we don’t hike the entire stage; we always return to where the kayaks are). We usually trek to a place of interest, depending on where the bad weather hits. If we lose a day of the crossing, we’ll have to shorten the return trip. Under no circumstances will we put people at risk, so if we have to stop due to bad weather, we will.
The port of Ibiza, how do you cross it?
The port of Ibiza cannot be crossed by kayak due to maritime traffic, so there is a part of the island that cannot be explored for legal and logistical security reasons.
What are the kayak models?
We have two kayak models. The single kayak is the Rotomod Disc, and the double kayak is the Ocean Duo Rotomod.
Please note that all participants will rotate between single and double kayaks (for logistical and safety reasons).
Rotomod Disco Kayak
Length 428 cm, width 65 cm, height 33 cm, weight 23 kg and load 120 kg.
The Rotomod Disco is a kayak that is very similar to touring kayaks. It is a lightweight kayak, thanks to its design and features, which combines the advantages of a self-bailing kayak and those of a touring kayak. There is no faster self-bailing kayak than this one in its range.
Ocean Duo Rotomod Double Kayak
Length 370 cm, width 88 cm, weight 29 kg and load 220 kg.
The Ocena Duo, the benchmark for double self-draining kayaks, is the versatile kayak par excellence. Self-draining, robust, practical and comfortable, ideal for use by two people. It is made of COMPOUND Polyethylene, PEHD treated with anti-UV inhibitors and recyclable. Ideal for sea crossings and very stable, making it difficult to tip over.
And at the end of the day?
Resting in wild places is allowed with sleeping bags and mats. Under no circumstances will tents be set up, and the place will be left as we found it, or better.
What happens in case of rain?
If rain is forecast, an awning will be set up for shelter. If a major storm occurs, we will take the group to a covered location in the vans.
