TANIT, THE GUARDIAN OF THE SEA
Legend tell us that centuries ago, when the first Phoenician sailors arrived in Ibiza, they felt something special on the island. It was not just its wild beauty or its crystal-clear waters, but an ancient energy that surrounded them. They knew then that they were not alone: a goddess watched over the island, a goddess who protected life and the sea.
That goddess was Tanit, lady of fertility, the moon, and the oceans. She was considered the mother of Ibiza, the protector of travelers, and the invisible force that maintained the balance between land and sea.
Tanit’s Promise
According to tradition, one night Tanit descended upon the islet of Es Vedrá and promised that Ibiza would always be a refuge for those who respected its waters and nature. To seal her promise, she extended her hand over the sea, and from her palm emerged the Oceanic Posidonia, a magical underwater plant that has since protected the island’s waters, filtering them until they became the purest in the Mediterranean.
The ancient inhabitants of Ibiza, aware of this divine gift, learned to live in harmony with nature, understanding that everything the island offered had to be respected: from the flight of Eleonora’s falcon to the dance of the sargantanas among the rocks.
Tanit’s Travelers
Today, centuries later, Tanit’s promise remains alive. And those who kayak around Ibiza become travelers of the goddess, exploring the island just as the ancient sailors once did. They follow the routes drawn by the sea, rest in the coves she blessed, and dive into waters that still hold her essence.
That is why Vuelta Ibiza Kayak carries Tanit as its emblem. Because each journey is not just an adventure, but a way to honor the goddess and her legacy: respect for the sea, nature, and the history of this unique island.
When we paddle through the waters of Ibiza, we are not just moving between waves… we are also gliding over history, under the watchful gaze of Tanit.
